DESCRIPTION -- Special pack of souvenir matches from the Holland America Line during their centennial year in 1973 which are unused and in a very good condition.

HISTORY -- Holland America Line is an American/British owned premium cruise line; a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc. Originating in the Netherlands, the company is now based in Seattle, United States and in 1973 celebrated its centennial year. From 1873 to 1989, it was a Dutch shipping line, a passenger line, a cargo line and a cruise line operating primarily between the Netherlands and North America. As part of this rich legacy, it was instrumental in the transport of many hundreds of thousands of immigrants from the Netherlands to North America.

DESCRIPTION -- Although used this is an excellent condition set of TT Line shipping company playing cards, which are complete and boxed.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- The TT-Line is a shipping company based in Labeck, Germany, which has been providing a ferry service between Travemande in Schleswig-Holstein and Trelleborg in southern Sweden since 1962. From 1992 on, Rostock is also offered as starting harbor to Trelleborg (until 1997 this service was marketed as TR-Line). In 2007, TT-Line possesses six ferries. In 1978 TT-Line acquired 50% of Olau Line and purchased the rest of the company in 1979. TT-Line remained the sole owner of Olau Line until the line's closure in 1994.

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir propelling pencil from the vessel the SS Reina Del Mar which is in a good condition and shows on it the name of the ship and dates from the 1960's.

CONDITION -- Very Good
HISTORY -- Reina del Mar was a 13,824 GRT cruise ship which was built by Vickers-Armstrongs in 1950. She served with Furness Withy for fifteen years, then with a Bulgarian company for three years, renamed Varna. She spent much of the 1970's laid up, and was renamed Venus and then Riviera. In the early 1980's, she was renamed Reina del Mar and refitted for further use as a cruise ship but a fire gutted her, and she was scuttled on 1 June 1981 when a further fire broke out.

DESCRIPTION -- From a very famous old vessel and paddle steamer the PS Waverley, this is a metal piece from the refit to the ship in 1960. The part is from the paddle float and bush and is inscribed on the back (click on the picture to see the other side).

CONDITION -- Very Good
HISTORY -- The PS Waverley is the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world. Built in 1946, she sailed from Craigendoran on the Firth of Clyde to Arrochar on Loch Long until 1973. Bought by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS), she has been restored to her 1947 appearance and now operates passenger excursions around the British coast. Since 2003 Waverley has been listed in the National Historic Fleet by National Historic Ships UK as "a vessel of pre-eminent national importance".

HISTORY -- Princess Cruises began in 1965, when founder Stanley McDonald chartered Canadian Pacific Limited's Alaska cruise ship Princess Patricia for Mexican Riviera cruises from Los Angeles during a time when she would have usually been laid up for the winter.

HISTORY -- Safmarine is an international shipping business offering container and break-bulk shipping services worldwide. Formed in 1946 by South African industrialists and American ship owners, Safmarine is now widely known as a north/south trade and African specialist. The line is represented in more than 130 countries throughout the world, with more than 1200 sailors selling their services, and Safmarine has been headquartered and registered in Antwerp, Belgium, since 1996.

HISTORY -- Frederick Warne & Company is a British publisher famous for children's books, particularly those of Beatrix Potter, and for its Observer's Books which have gained a cult following. The company was founded in 1865 by a bookseller turned publisher, Frederick Warne.

DESCRIPTION -- Full set of Wills cigarette cards from 1925 showing pictures of ships crests and the set is in an excellent condition and protected in protective covers.

HISTORY -- In 1887 in the UK, W.D. & H.O. Wills were one of the first companies to include advertising cards with their cigarettes. Each set of cards typically consisted of 25 or 50 related subjects, but series of over 100 cards per issue are known. Some very early cigarette cards were printed on silk which was then attached to a paper backing. They were discontinued in order to save paper during World War II, and never fully reintroduced thereafter.
