DESCRIPTION -- This medal was produced for the Hudson-Fulton Celebration. It was a year long event that included Regattas, Naval Parades, Yacht Races and such like, and took place in 1909. This was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Robert Fultons 1807 first successful steamboat sail, as well as the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudsons discovery of the river in 1609. Though originally planned as a tribute to Fulton alone in 1907, it ended up being postponed until 1909 so that the two events could be combined into one larger celebration. Medals like this were passed out as souvenirs to all those who attended the various events.
