DESCRIPTION -- From the British India Steam Navigation Company this is souvenir holdall bag from the famous vessel the SS Uganda when in London, England and is in a very good condition.

HISTORY -- The SS Uganda was a British steamship that had a varied and notable career. She was built in 1952 as a passenger liner, and successively served as a cruise ship, hospital ship, troop ship and stores ship. She was laid up in 1985 and scrapped in 1992.

VERY EARLY FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH OF THE BISNCo. VESSEL THE UGANDA

DESCRIPTION – From the British India Steam Navigation Company this is an early framed colour photograph from the old vessel the SS Uganda which is in a very good condition and the size is 11″ x 8″ (28cm x 20cm).

HISTORY -- The British India Steam Navigation Company (sometimes known as BI) was formed in 1856 as the Calcutta and Burmah Steam Navigation Company. The company had been formed out of Mackinnon, Mackenzie & Co, a trading partnership of the Scots William Mackinnon and Robert Mackenzie, to carry mail between Calcutta and Rangoon. It became British India SN Co in 1862.

DECORATIVE SOUVENIR DISH FROM THE SS UGANDA OF THE B.I.S.N.Co.

DESCRIPTION -- From the vessel the SS Uganda of the British India Steamship Navigational Company this is a circular china dish which is in a fantastic condition and the item shows in the centre a picture of the ship and the vessel's name. The item has a size of 4½" (13cm) wide and the type of item purchased and found on board the vessel.

HISTORY -- The British India Steam Navigation Company ("BI") was formed in 1856 as the Calcutta and Burmah Steam Navigation Company. The company had been formed out of Mackinnon, Mackenzie & Co, a trading partnership of the Scots William Mackinnon and Robert Mackenzie, to carry mail between Calcutta and Rangoon. It became British India SN Co in 1862. Under the hand of Lord Inchcape (James Lyle Mackay) who had become chairman in 1913, the company became part of the P&O group of companies in 1914 through a complex amalgamation.

MINI SOUVENIR BELL FROM THE B.I.S.N.Co. VESSEL MV DILWARA

DESCRIPTION -- Old item souvenir from the B.I.S.N.Co. vessel the MV Dilwara which shows on it the name and houseflag and is in a good condition for its age and the size is 4" (10cm) high.

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- The MV Dilwara was built by Barclay Curle & Company, Glasgow. She was launched 17th October 1935 and was finished being built in 1936. It was 11,050 gross tonnes and was to be used as a troopship.  During 1940-1941 she was used as a troopship from South Africa to Egypt and took part in the evacuation of Greece.

SOUVENIR MAP DISH FROM THE B.I.S.N.Co. VESSEL THE SS NEVASA

DESCRIPTION -- From the British India Steam Navigation Company vessel the SS Nevasa this is a souvenir map dish showing a ship's ports of call and it is in an excellent condition with the size being 4½" (12cm) and dates from the 1960's.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The SS Nevasa was owned by the British India Steam Navigation Company and was 20,527 tons. New features of the ship included stabilisers to reduce rolling in rough seas. The Nevasa had the capacity to accommodate 500 officers and their families and 1,000 NCOs and men on the troop deck. The ship was used to transport troops during the Suez Crisis in 1956.

GLASS DISH SOUVENIR FROM THE BRITISH INDIA STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY VESSEL THE UGANDA

DESCRIPTION -- From the B.I.S.N.Co. vessel the Uganda and dating circa 1950's, this is a souvenir oblong glass dish and shows on it the name and picture of the vessel. It is 6" (16.5cm) x 3" (8.5cm) in size and in an as new condition and would have been purchased onboard ship.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- Built for British India's UK-East Africa run (the line's founder Sir William MacKinnon having played a critical role in the development of British East Africa in the 1880s.) UGANDA was the second of two new mailships built by Barclay Curle in 1951-52. She was distinguished from KENYA by her funnel which was 12 feet higher. UGANDA made her first voyage to Dar-es-Salaam and Mombasa via Suez in August 1952.
