CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The SS Himalaya was a British passenger ship of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, launched in 1948, which operated mainly between Britain and Australia. She was withdrawn from service in 1974 and scrapped the next year.

CONDITION --  Excellent

HISTORY -- The SS Oronsay was the second Orient Line ship built after World War II. A sister ship to Orcades, she was named after the island of Oronsay off the west coast of Scotland. The liner was completed in 1951 at Vickers-Armstrong, Barrow-in-Furness, but was delivered several months behind schedule because of a serious fire that broke out in the fitting-out berth.

HISTORY -- SS Orcades was an ocean liner serving primarily the UK - Australia - New Zealand route. She started service as a British Royal Mail Ship (RMS) carrying first and tourist class passengers. Orcades carried many migrants to Australia and New Zealand and was later used as a cruise ship. "Orcades" is the Latin name for the Orkney Islands.

HISTORY -- The SS Iberia was an ocean liner completed in 1954 for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O). Along with her fleet mates Himalaya, Arcadia and Chusan, Iberia mainly provided passenger service between the United Kingdom and Australasia. Iberia was constructed at the Belfast shipyard of Harland and Wolff and originally provided service between London and Sydney via the Suez Canal.

HISTORY -- The RMS Empress of Britain was a transatlantic ocean liner built by Fairfield Shipbuilding at Govan on the Clyde in Scotland in 1955-1956 for Canadian Pacific Steamships (CP).  This ship the third of three CP vessels to be named Empress of Britain, regularly traversed the trans-Atlantic route between Canada and Europe until 1964, completing 123 voyages under the Canadian Pacific flag.

HISTORY -- The third of Canadian Pacific's named "Duchess" ships, the Duchess of Richmond was built by John Brown & Co. of Glasgow.  Launched in June 1928, she began her career on 26 January 1929, with a cruise from Liverpool to the Canary Islands.  She then entered the line's transatlantic service with a 15 March 1929 sailing from Liverpool to St. John, New Brunswick. She remained on the Liverpool to St. John (winter) or Montréal (summer) service for her entire career with Canadian Pacific.

DESCRIPTION -- Very rare to find souvenir spoon from the vessel TSS (RMS) Transylvania which was tragically sunk during WW2 and which is in a very good condition (click on the picture for close up of the emblem at the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- Anchor Lines second Transylvania, sister of Caledonia IV, was built by Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering at Govan. She was laid down in 1919, but soon after work stopped for nearly two years. As a result, her launch occurred in March 1925, followed by a Glasgow-New York maiden voyage on 12 September 1925.  Requisitioned as an armed merchant cruiser when World War II began, she was torpedoed and sunk by U 56 west of Inishtrahull on 10 August 1940. Although nearby trawlers were able to rescue about 300 of Transylvania's crew, there were 48 fatalities.

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir spoon from the vessel the TSS Captain Cook which is in a very good condition (click on the picture for close up of the emblem at the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The vessel Captain Cook, along with the Captain Hobson, brought assisted immigrants to New Zealand via the Panama Canal from 1952. The Cook had 1070 berths and was furnished in a solid but attractive style. Its first trip to New Zealand was not uneventful: workmen were still carrying out conversion work, a failure in the engine room necessitated a layover in Aruba in the Caribbean, and the ship ran out of fresh water a few days out of Wellington. In 1960 the Captain Cook was withdrawn from service and broken up.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- With the Empress of England having been sold to Shaw Savill Lines on April 1, 1970, she was officially renamed the SS Ocean Monarch on April 4, thus she had now lost the prefix RMS. Shaw Savill had decided to send her straight to Australia without any changes, except repainting her funnel to the traditional Shaw Savill livery and painting the broad green band white.
