SOUVENIR SILVER SPOON FROM THE SS ATHENIA

DESCRIPTION -- Silver spoon souvenir from the old vessel the SS Athenia which is in a great condition and shows the crest in full colour at the top. It is a very rare item to find due to the sad loss of the ship at the start of WWII and the size of the spoon is 4" (10cm) in length.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The SS Athenia was the first British ship to be sunk by Nazi Germany in World War II. Athenia was built by the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Ltd., and was launched at Govan, Scotland in 1923. She was built for Anchor-Donaldson Ltd.'s route between Britain and Canada. SS Athenia, under Captain James Cook, departed Glasgow for Montreal on 1 September 1939, via Liverpool and Belfast, carrying 1,103 civilians, including more than 300 Americans, and 315 crew. She left Liverpool at 13:00 on 2 September, and on the evening of 3 September was 60 mi (97 km) south of Rockall (250 miles/400 km northwest of Inishtrahull, Ireland), when she was sighted by the German U-boat U-30 and sunk

SILVER PLATED SPOON FROM CUNARD LINE VESSEL THE RMS QUEEN MARY

DESCRIPTION -- A silver-plated spoon souvenir from the most famous of Cunard Line vessels the RMS Queen Mary. It is an item from our Maritime Spoon collection and it is in a very good condition.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- RMS Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that sailed the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (then Cunard-White Star when the vessel entered service). Built by John Brown and Company, Clydebank, Scotland, she was designed to be the first of Cunard's planned two-ship weekly express service from Southampton to Cherbourg to New York, in answer to the mainland European super liners of the late 1920's and early 1930's.

SILVER PLATED SPOON FROM THE EURIPIDES FROM THE ABERDEEN LINE

DESCRIPTION -- Very rare item from the liner Euripides from the Aberdeen Line shipping company which is a silver-plated spoon showing at the top a superb view of the liner at sea in full colour. It is all hand painted plus has the ships name shown on the scroll and the item is dated circa 1919-23. It is a very good condition piece and a fantastic collectors item with the size approx 5" Long (13cm).

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The Euripides was a 14,947 gross ton ship built in 1914 by Harland & Wolff, Belfast for the Aberdeen and Commonwealth Line. There was accommodation for 140-1st, 334-2nd and 750-3rd class passengers. Launched on 29th Jan.1914, she was the company's largest ship and made a "shake down" cruise in June with guests. Her maiden voyage from London to Brisbane started on 1st July and she arrived on 24th August.
