SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE LAMPORT AND HOLT LINE VESSEL THE SS VOLTAIRE

DESCRIPTION -- From the vessel the SS (HMS) Voltaire built 1923, converted to an Armed Merchant Cruiser in 1939 and tragically sunk in 1941, this is a very rare to find souvenir spoon which is in an excellent condition (click on the picture for close up of the emblem at the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The Lamport and Holt Line was a shipping line based in Liverpool, England. It was founded in 1845 by William James Lamport and George Holt. Lamport was from Workington in Cumberland, while Holt, whose brother Alfred founded the Blue Funnel Line, was a Liverpool man.

SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE BRITISH INDIA STEAM COMPANY VESSEL THE MV DUNERA

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir spoon from the British India Steam Navigation Company vessel the MV Dunera which is in an excellent virtually unused condition (click on the picture for close up of the emblem at the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Unused

HISTORY -- MS (MV) Dunera began life as the HMT Dunera and was a British passenger ship which gave her name to an infamous case of wartime maltreatment and injustice. After trials in 1937, she was handed over to the British-India Steam Navigation Company and served as a passenger liner and an educational cruise ship before seeing extensive service troopship throughout the Second World War.

SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE CANADIAN PACIFIC LINE VESSEL THE EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir spoon from the vessel the Empress of Scotland from the Canadian Pacific Line which is in an excellent condition.  The vessel later ended up with the Hamburg America Line and became the Hanseatic in 1958 (click on the picture for close up of the emblem at the end of the spoon).

CONDITION --  Excellent

HISTORY -- The Empress of Japan was built in 1930 for the trans-Pacific services out of Vancouver of the Canadian Pacific Line. She was renamed Empress of Scotland in October 1942 following the entry of Japan into WW2 (albeit after a gap of eleven months!). After the war she was transferred to the Atlantic service from Liverpool, replacing the Empress of Britain which had been lost. The promenade deck was plated in for Atlantic service.

SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE OLD VESSEL THE RMS DUCHESS OF ATHOLL

DESCRIPTION -- From the vessel the RMS Duchess of Atholl this is a souvenir spoon dates the 1930's and is in a very good condition.  The vessel was sadly lost in 1942 when sunk off Ascension Islands by a German U178 submarine (click on the picture for close up of the emblem at the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- RMS Duchess of Atholl was a 20,019 GRT ocean liner of Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd that sailed between Liverpool and Canada.  William Beardmore and Company built her in Dalmuir, Dumbartonshire in 1928. For a month in 1928, Duchess of Atholl held the record for an eastbound crossing from Canada to Liverpool, at 6 days, 13 hours.  In 1940, Duchess of Atholl left Liverpool on 19 July 1940, bound for Quebec and Montreal with passengers including evacuated children.  The German Type IX submarine U-178 sank her in the South Atlantic on 10 October 1942, killing four of the liner's crew.

HISTORY -- Queen Elizabeth 2, often referred to simply as QE2, is a floating hotel and retired ocean liner built for the Cunard Line which was operated by Cunard as both a transatlantic liner and a cruise ship from 1969 to 2008. Since 18 April 2018 she has been operating as a floating hotel in Dubai.

SOUVENIR SALT SPOON FROM THE CANADIAN PACIFIC LINE VESSEL THE EMPRESS OF CANADA

DESCRIPTION -- From the Canadian Pacific Line vessel the Empress of Canada this is a souvenir spoon which is in an excellent condition and was produced between 1947 when the vessel was built and 1953 when the vessel was sunk (click on the picture for close up of the emblem at the end of the spoon).

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- RMS Empress of Canada was an ocean liner built in 1961 by Vickers-Armstrongs, Walker-on-Tyne, England for Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd. This ship, the third CP vessel to be named Empress of Canada, regularly traversed the transatlantic route between Liverpool and Canada for the next decade.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- RMS Empress of Britain was a transatlantic ocean liner built by Fairfield Shipbuilding at Govan on the Clyde in Scotland in 1905/1906 for Canadian Pacific Steamship (CP). This ship, the first of three CP vessels to be named Empress of Britain regularly traversed the trans-Atlantic route between Canada and Europe until 1922, with the exception of the war years.

BOXED SOUVENIR SPOON FROM THE P&O EUROPEAN FERRIES COMPANY

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir boxed spoon from the P&O European Ferries company which dates from the 1960's, is in its original presentation box and is in a very good condition.  The spoon shows at the top the company name and a view of a seagoing vessel.

HISTORY -- P&O European Ferries (formerly Townsend Thoresen), a division of P&O Ferries, was a ferry company which operated in the English Channel from 1987 after the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster, when Townsend Thoresen was renamed P&O European Ferries, until 1999 when the Portsmouth Operations became P&O Portsmouth and the Dover Operations were merged with Stena Line AB to make P&O Stena Line.

EARLY SOUVENIR FROM AN ARUN LIFEBOAT

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir spoon from an Arun Lifeboat which is in its original box and appears to unused and as new and dates from the 1970's showing a view of the lifeboat and name at the top (click on the picture for a closer look at the top of the spoon)

CONDITION -- Unused (as new)

HISTORY -- The Arun class lifeboat is a fast all-weather lifeboat designed by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) for service at its stations around the coasts of Great Britain and Ireland. They were operated by the RNLI between 1971 and 2008. Many have been sold to see further service in the lifeboat and coastguard services of other countries.  The class takes its name from the River Arun in Sussex, England.
