CONDITION --
HISTORY -- The P&O Line originally established ferry services in the United Kingdom in the late 1960s in the North Sea and the English Channel. In the late 1970s P&O was affected by a reduction in traditional shipping activities which saw the sale of a number of its businesses and assets. This continued into 1985 with the sale of its cross-channel ferry activities to European Ferries, which at the time consisted of services on the Dover - Boulogne and Southampton - Le Havre routes.

DESCRIPTION -- Original souvenir lapel pin from the vessel UK passenger vessel the Dominion Monarch, which is in an excellent condition and dates from the 1940's.

CONDITION -- Very Good
HISTORY -- Dominion Monarch was a UK passenger and refrigerated cargo liner. Her name was a reference to the Dominion of New Zealand. The ship was built in England in 1937-39, and when new she set a number of records for her size and power. She operated between Britain and New Zealand via Australia in civilian service 1938-40 and 1948-62 and was a troop ship 1940-47. She spent half of 1962 in the Port of Seattle as a floating hotel for the Century 21 Exposition and was then scrapped in Japan.

CONDITION --
HISTORY -- The Duke of Argyll was a railway steamer passenger ship that operated in Europe from 1956 to 1975. Along with her sister ships the TSS Duke of Lancaster and the TSS Duke of Rothesay she was among the last passenger-only steamers built for British Railways (at that time, also a ferry operator).

HISTORY -- The Orient Steam Navigation Company, also known as the Orient Line, was a British shipping company with roots going back to the late 18th century. From the early 20th century onwards an association began with P&O which became 51% shareholder in 1919 and culminated in the Orient Line being totally absorbed into that company in 1966.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- The Royal Navy is traditionally the oldest part of the British armed forces, founded during the reign of Henry VIII, and so is known as the 'Senior Service'. The official history of the Royal Navy began with the formal establishment of the Royal Navy as the national naval force of the Kingdom of England in 1660, following the Restoration of King Charles II to the throne. However, for more than a thousand years before that there had been English naval forces varying in type and organization.

DESCRIPTION -- Original souvenir lapel pin from the vessel the Swan from the Windermere Steamers Company, which is in an excellent condition and dates from the 1940's/1950's.

CONDITION -- Excellent
HISTORY -- Windermere is famous for its 'Great White Birds' - the steamers of the company are named TERN, TEAL, SWAN and SWIFT. The term 'steamer' is a slight misnomer however because all the ships are now diesel powered although there is a move afoot to reconvert one of them back to steam power by the new managers - The Windermere Iron Steamboat Company. The TERN and SWIFT were built for steam power in 1891 and 1900 respectively. The TEAL and SWAN in 1936 and 1938.
