[ONLY 1 AVAILABLE]

HISTORY -- The History of the Royal Navy can be traced back to before the ninth century AD. However, the present Royal Navy was formally created as the national naval force of the Kingdom of England in 1660, following the Restoration of King Charles II to the throne. In 1707 it became the naval force of the Kingdom of Great Britain after the Union between England and Scotland which merged the English Navy with the much smaller Royal Scots Navy, although the two had begun operating together from the time of the Union of the Crowns in 1603. Through all of these times the wearing of badges has been common place.

HISTORY -- Windermere is famous for its 'Great White Birds' - the steamers of the company are named TERN, TEAL, SWAN and SWIFT. EARLY ROYAL NAVAL T-SHIRT FROM THE ROYAL TOURNAMENT

DESCRIPTION -- This item is from The Royal Tournament and is a very early white Royal Naval T-Shirt. It is in a very good condition and the size is believed to be small to medium (there is no size attached).
[ONLY 1 AVAILABLE]

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The precise origins of the Tournament are not exactly clear however tradition suggests that the idea originated at the National Rifle Association meetings on Wimbledon Common in the 1870's. The meets attracted volunteers from across the Victorian Army. Although stories of a Military Tournament held to entertain the competitors at Wimbledon had been mooted for years, contemporary newspapers do not record such an event. However, it is known that sports meetings were held at Wimbledon to amuse the troops during the period between the end of the shooting and the prize giving.
