SILVER-PLATED SPOON FROM THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH LINE SHIPPING COMPANY

DESCRIPTION -- Superb as used on board silver-plated dining spoon from the British Commonwealth Line Shipping Company. This type of item is difficult to find now (click on the picture to see the company emblem engraved on the item).

HISTORY -- The British Commonwealth Line Shipping Company was originally established in 1955 when Clan Line Steamers was merged with Union Castle to form The British & Commonwealth Shipping Company, a shipping business. British & Commonwealth were the ultimate owners of British United Airways (BUA), Britain's largest wholly private, independent airline of the 1960's, as well as its subsidiaries and sister companies, including British United Air Ferries and British United Island Airways (BUIA). They were also a shareholder of Bristow Helicopters, at the time the UK's biggest helicopter company as well as one of the largest in the world, acquiring full control in 1985.

ORIGINAL IN SERVICE DINING SIDE KNIFE FROM THE P&O LINE

DESCRIPTION -- Cutlery item from the P&O Line shipping company which is an original as used on board dining side knife and shows on it the P&O Line and is in a very good condition and from the 1960's.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) has a celebrated history dating back to the 1830's. It was incorporated by a Royal Charter in 1840, and its name therefore includes neither "PLC" nor "Limited". The initials "P&O" are among the most familiar anywhere, and its houseflag, older even than the Company itself, is one of the best known.

DINING KNIFE AND FORK FROM THE ORIENT LINE

DESCRIPTION -- A pair of cutlery items from the Orient Line shipping company and are original as used on board pieces. They are a dining knife and fork from a very famous shipping line and the cutlery shows on each piece the Orient Line logo, and both are in a very good condition and are from the 1960's. CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The Orient Steam Navigation Company, also known as the Orient Line, was a British shipping company with roots going back to the late 18th century. From the early 20th century onwards an association began with P&O that eventually culminated in the Orient Line being totally absorbed into that company in the 1960's.

AS USED ON BOARD TEA SPOON FROM THE ROTTERDAM LLOYD SHIPPING LINE

DESCRIPTION -- As used on board tea spoon from the Rotterdam Lloyd shipping company which is in a very good condition and shows on it the company flag (click on the picture to see a closer view of the company flag ).

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The Rotterdam Lloyd company started life in 1839 as Willem Ruys, using sailing ships to trade with the Dutch East Indies and Far East. The company underwent a number of name changes: to Stoomboot Reederij "Rotterdamsche Lloyd" (Rotterdam Lloyd) in 1875, Stoomvaart Maatschappij Rotterdamsche Lloyd (Rotterdam Steam Navigation Co) in 1881 and in 1883 to N.V. Rotterdamsche Lloyd.

DESSERT SPOON FROM THE MOSS HUTCHINSON LINE

DESCRIPTION -- Rare find of original dessert spoon from the Moss Hutchinson Line which is nicely top marked with the belt logo, which reads across it MOSS HUTCHINSON LINE and also has the company houseflag on. It is in a superb condition and a genuine as used on board piece (Price is for ONE spoon only and not the TWO in the picture).

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The Moss Hutchinson Line was founded in 1815 by Mr. James Moss, a Liverpool ship chandler, who wanted to charter a sailing vessel to trade in the Mediterranean ports. In 1823, he was joined in partnership by Mr. Thomas Hampson, and the company became known as Moss & Hampson. After its dissolution in 1833, it continued its business under the name of James Moss & Co., with Messrs. William Moss and Richard Spencer as the new partners.

SILVER-PLATED SPOON FROM THE ATLANTIC TRANSPORT LINE

DESCRIPTION -- Original silver-plated soup spoon from the Atlantic Transport Line Shipping Company which is an early piece and shows the company belt and name on the handle and the size is 7" (19cm) long.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The Atlantic Transport Line was a Baltimore, Maryland-based passenger shipping line that was folded into the International Mercantile Marine shipping trust (IMM) in 1901. The line developed with railroad support as an offshoot of Bernard N. Baker's Baltimore Storage and Lighterage Company in 1881. Although American owned, the Atlantic Transport Line operated out of Britain, with British registered and manned vessels, most of which were British built. General cargo, live cattle, and small numbers of passengers were carried to British ports and the line developed an excellent reputation for shipping valuable horses.
