HISTORY -- In 1932, the Aberdeen Line was purchased by Shaw, Savill & Albion and in 1933 the fleet of the former Australian Commonwealth Line which had not been fully paid for, was also acquired and the Aberdeen & Commonwealth Line formed. In 1936 Furness Withy & Co took control of Shaw Savill & Albion, in 1938 the Aberdeen name was dropped from the title and in 1957 the last of their ships was scrapped and the company disappeared.

HISTORY -- The Allan Shipping Line was started in 1819, by Captain Alexander Allan of Saltcoats, Ayrshire, trading and transporting between Scotland and Montreal, a route which quickly became synonymous with the Allan Line.

DESCRIPTION -- From the Castle Packets shipping company this is a very early as used in service dessert spoon which is in a very good condition and an unusual find.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- This is an interesting company which was formed in 1862 by Donald Currie as Donald Currie & Co. and familiarly known as "Currie's Calcutta Castles". The first steamships entered service on the India route in 1872 and the same year, a passenger and private mail service from the UK to South Africa was inaugurated. In 1876 the company became Castle Mail Packet Co. Ltd. and a joint mail contract was awarded together with the Union SS Co. Calls at Flushing began in 1889 resulting in the grant of a contract to carry Dutch mails to South Africa and in 1900 Castle Line merged with the Union SS Co. to form Union-Castle Mail SS Co.

HISTORY -- Prince Line was started by James Knott of Howdon Newcastle in 1878 when he purchased his first ship - an old collier called Pearl. He went on to purchase many more sailing ships and got his first steamer Saxon Prince in 1881. Many more were to follow in the next few years – some oil tankers with 29 steamers by 1890.

DESCRIPTION -- As used on board ship mustard spoon from the Union Castle Line shipping company dating from the 1950’s which is in a vgood condition and shows on it the company emblem.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The Union-Castle Line was a British shipping line that operated a fleet of passenger liners and cargo ships between Europe and Africa from 1900 to 1977. It was formed from the merger of the Union Line and Castle Shipping Line.  It merged with Bullard King and Clan Line in 1956 to form British & Commonwealth Shipping, and then with South African Marine Corporation in 1973 to create International Liner Services but maintained its separate identity throughout. Its shipping operations ceased in 1977.
