HISTORY -- The Windsor Castle was the largest passenger/cargo mail ship operated by the Union-Castle Line on its 'Cape Mail' service to South African ports. Built in 1959, the new vessel was notable for the high standard, if conservative, design of her public rooms in a "traditional" first class and "contemporary" tourist class configuration, which by clever arrangement, afforded both classes public rooms and deck space facing forward. The spacious passenger lounges and dining rooms were designed by eminent British architects.

HISTORY -- The SS Canberra was the first modern liner, with engines located after to increase passenger space, and many other innovations. She personified the best in design of her era, having an extremely elegant profile. By carrying emigrants on the ten pound assisted passages to Australia, she provided many happy memories for them, as she also did for the many who sailed aboard her in her later incarnation as a cruise ship. Canberra was the ship that began the affordable cruise industry in England.

CANBERRA FAREWELL CRUISE COLLECTION OF MENUS AND BOOKLETS DATED SEPTEMBER 1997

MARITIME MENUU COLLECTION
DIFFERENT CRUISE LINES AND CRUISE LINERS

DESCRIPTION -- Collection of menus from the last ever voyage of the old vessel the SS Canberra and consists of a set of breakfast, lunch and evening dining menus and all are in an excellent condition.  Rare to find a large full set such as this.
[ONLY 1 AVAILABLE]

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The P&O Line commissioned the Canberra to operate the combined P&O-Orient Line service between the United Kingdom and Australia. The arrival of the jet airliner had already caused a drop in demand for this service; a reduction in emigration to Australia and wars forcing the closure of the Suez Canal saw the route become unprofitable. However a refit in 1974 saw the Canberra adapted to cruising. Unusually, this transition from an early life as a purpose built ocean liner to a long and successful career in cruising, occurred without any major external alterations, and with only minimal internal and mechanical changes over the years.
