-- Original booklet publication produced during WW2 which is as new and protected in a polythene packet. It is entitled 'The Royal Marines' and gives an official Admiralty account of their achievements in 1939 - 1943. The booklet is in a mint condition and is an original from the 1940's.

It is by Philip Kaplan & Jack Currie and was produced in 1998 and the book has over 200 pages and is in a mint unused condition. The original cost of this item is far far more than the asking price and it is a fascinating book, which covers the period in much great detail.

HISTORY -- MV Oriana is a cruise ship and ocean liner of the P&O Cruises fleet. The ship was built by Meyer Werft at their shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. At over 69,000 GT, Oriana is the seventh largest of eight ships currently in service with P&O Cruises. She officially entered service with the company in April 1995 and was named by Queen Elizabeth II.

It gives many great details of the last survivors of the great days of Coastal Sail, from The Thames to Lands End and is a rare book, as most of the books we list always are, and contains nearly 100 pages. It is in a good condition and is an interesting read.

MARITIME BOOK ENTITLED 'OUR SEAMAN' BY SAMUEL PLIMSOLL MP

DESCRIPTION -- Old maritime book which was reprinted from the original in 1873 and is entitled 'Our Seaman An Appeal' and produced by the Samuel Plimsoll MP.  It has over 100 pages and contains many drawings, pictures and details and it is in an excellent condition and is an interesting read.

HISTORY -- Samuel Plimsoll (10 February 1824 ' 3 June 1898) was a British politician and social reformer, now best remembered for having devised the Plimsoll line (a line on a ship's hull indicating the maximum safe draft, and therefore the minimum freeboard (nautical) for the vessel in various operating conditions)

HISTORICAL BOOK OF THE LONDON ORCHARD DOCKLANDS

DESCRIPTION -- Book on the history of the famous Orchard Dockyard in London, England and is titled 'Past And Present' and was compiled by John Creighton. It has some truly fantastic pictures and drawings and is an interesting history of the dockyard. It also contains copies of the old Bill of Sale and is very concise in its stories and the size of the book is 10" x 15" (25.5cm x 38cm).

JUNE 1917 'BILLS OF FARE' FROM ST PAUL OF THE AMERICAN LINE

MARITIME MENU SELECTION
FROM DIFFERENT CRUISE LINES AND VESSELS

DESCRIPTION -- Collection of on board menus from The American Line vessel St. Paul which were for the use of the Chief Steward during a voyage and are dated Saturday 6th June 1917 - Monday 15th June 1917. This is a very old item, which is in a good condition and is from the last days of the company.

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- The ST. PAUL and its sister ship, the ST. LOUIS, were ocean liners sailing with American Lines which were converted to "swift auxiliary cruisers" during the war. While serving in this role the ST. PAUL captured the British steamer RESTORMEL bound for Santiago, and the sailing vessel WARY bound for Manzanillo. Also, she disabled the Spanish torpedo boat destroyer Terror. The ST. PAUL and ST. LOUIS steamed between England and New York for the American Lines. These ships were very successful a liners, in spite of their smaller size and lesser luxury than many contemporary foreign vessels.

WW2 BOOK 'U BOAT WAY' - PUBLISHED 1975

DESCRIPTION -- Rare book by Lothar-Gunther Buchheim entitled 'U BOAT WAY' which gives complete details of life from the German side of the actions during the 2nd World War. It contains many original photographs taken from German officers during their time in the war and it tells of an interesting perspective of life at sea aboard this type of vessel. The condition of the book is very good with some slight damage to the front cover and it was published in 1975, is a nice collectable book, with the size being 11" x 9" (28cm x 23cm).
