EARLY BOOKLET FROM THE FAMOUS SCOTTISH PADDLE STEAMER THE WAVERLEY

DESCRIPTION -- From the famous Scottish paddle steamer The Waverley this is a fabulous book/booklet entitled ‘Dinosaur Down Below’ by Ian W. Muir.  It was produced in 1980 and covers all aspects of this great vessel and is in an excellent condition.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The Waverley is the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world. Built in 1946, she sailed from Craigendoran on the Firth of Clyde to Arrochar on Loch Long until 1973. Bought by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS), she has been restored to her 1947 appearance and now operates passenger excursions around the British coast.

MARITIME BOOK ENTITLED MERCHANT FLEETS COVERING THE VESSELS OF THE UNION CASTLE, ALLAN AND CANADIAN PACIFIC LINE

BOOK ENTITLED 'LEFT FOR DEAD' BY NICK WARD COVERING THE FASTNET RACE

BOOK ENTITLED 'PASSENGER SHIPS OF THE ORIENT LINE' BY NEIL McCART

DESCRIPTION -- A hard cover print of the book by Neil McCart covering all the passenger ships of the Orient Line from 1878 onwards.  There are 250 pages in a near mint condition book which is now not available to purchase, although similar versions are.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The Orient Line's beginnings can be traced back to the formation of a shipbroking company by James Thompson (or Thomson) in 1797. The company was operating a small fleet of sailing ships by the early 19th century, and by the middle of the century they were sailing on routes all over the world.

SEPTEMBER 1917 'BILLS OF FARE' FROM THE VESSEL U.S.M.S. ST. PAUL OF THE AMERICAN LINE

DESCRIPTION -- Dated from the 27th September 1917 this is an original item of use and is a 'Bills of Fare' booklet from the American Line vessel the U.S.M.S. St Paul. It is for the voyage 256 West of the date listed and a rare item such as this does not come along that often. It is in a fairly good condition considering the age and has some fantastic facts in it from the time of its service.

CONDITION -- Fair

HISTORY -- The ST. PAUL and sister ship ST. LOUIS steamed between England and New York for the American Lines. These ships were very successful a liners, in spite of their smaller size and lesser luxury than many contemporary foreign vessels. They could each carry 1340 passengers in civilian service. These ships were provided with seventeen watertight compartments, and additional compartments surrounding the machinery

It covers the early days of steamships and the major shipping companies and their liners and there are many fantastic original pictures of vessels from the White Star Line and the 'Olympic', and the book contains nearly 300 pages. A great early book of shipping history at its best and in a good condition.
