DESCRIPTION -- Book entitled The Maritime Forces of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and covers the period of 1973 to 1983. It contains reference to over 700 ships of some 126 classes and covers the major ships and helicopters of the NATO naval forces. It is written by S.V. Goodman and D.C. Teague and is a very interesting book of information covered in many pages.

HISTORY -- The North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO, also called the (North) Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The NATO headquarters are in Brussels, Belgium, and the organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defence in response to an attack by any external party.

CENTENARY BOOKLET FROM THE WILHELMSEN SHIPPING COMPANY & ITS FLEET OF VESSELS 1861-1961

DESCRIPTION -- Fabulous booklet covering the centenary of the Wilhelmsen Shipping Company which covers in fine detail its fleet of vessels between the years of 1861 - 1961 and is in a great condition and a rare find (click on the picture to view some of the pictures inside).

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The company Wilhelmsen was founded in Tensberg in 1861 by Morten Wilhelm Wilhelmsen as a brokering and ship chandlering company and eventually became the largest Norwegian shipping company. In 1865 he entered ship owning when he purchased a share in the barque MATHILDE. The company's first steamship, the TALABOT was purchased in 1887.

DESCRIPTION -- This is a book from 1958 and is entitled 'First Aid in the Royal Navy'. It is in a good condition and a rare find. The book contains over 50 pages and was a common booklet produced for the Royal Navy and for general use. Very interesting to see how time has changed where the methods used and the way we treated people were somewhat different to the way it is done nowadays.

LIFEBOAT HANDBOOK GUIDE FROM THE 1960's

DESCRIPTION -- Very old example of a traditional book found onboard cruise ships years ago which is a 'Lifeboat Handbook Guide' and dates from the 1960's. It is in a very good condition and contains many pages of interesting features concerning lifeboat drills and use in case of emergency. This is a fascinating book and one that is rarely seen these days (click on the picture to view the inside of the book).

BOOK 'THESE SPLENDID SHIPS' - THE STORY OF THE P&O LINE FROM 1960

DESCRIPTION -- Superb book entitled These Splendid Ships and is the story of The Peninsular & Oriental Line by the author David Divine. It was published in 1960 and contains over 250 pages of interesting facts and pictures. The history of this great shipping line is explored in great detail and is a great read.

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) has a celebrated history dating back to the 1830's. It was incorporated by a Royal Charter in 1840, and its name therefore includes neither "PLC" nor "Limited". The initials "P&O" are among the most familiar anywhere, and its house flag, older even than the Company itself, is one of the best known.

FLAGS, FUNNELS & HULL COLOURS BOOK & PENNANT FROM 1963

DESCRIPTION -- Very famous and commonly used book entitled Flags, Funnels and Hull Colours by Colin Stewart. With copies always generally found onboard most ships, this particular copy was found from onboard the SS Nevasa of the B.I.S.N.C. and signed by the Commander and dates dates from 1963 and is in a great condition.

BOOK ENTITLED 'THE CUTTY SARK' BY ROBERT E. BRETTLE

DESCRIPTION -- This book was printed in 1969 and covers the subject of the most famous vessel 'The Cutty Sark' and the book covers the history and life of the vessel and has around 50 pages.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The Cutty Sark is a clipper ship. Built in 1869, she served as a merchant vessel (the last clipper to be built for that purpose), and then as a training ship until being put on public display in 1954. She is preserved in dry dock in Greenwich, London. Cutty Sark is one of only three ships in London on the Core Collection of the National Historic Ships Register (the nautical equivalent of a Grade 1 Listed Building) ' alongside HMS Belfast and SS Robin.

JUNE 1917 'BILLS OF FARE' FROM ST PAUL OF THE AMERICAN LINE

DESCRIPTION -- This item is dated from the 2nd June 1917 and is an original item of use. It is a 'Bills of Fare' booklet from the American Line vessel The St Paul. It is for the voyage 256 West of the date listed. A rare item such as this does not come along that often. It is in a fairly good condition considering the age and has some fantastic facts in it from the time of its service.

CONDITION -- Fair

HISTORY -- The ST. PAUL and sister ship ST. LOUIS steamed between England and New York for the American Lines. These ships were very successful a liners, in spite of their smaller size and lesser luxury than many contemporary foreign vessels. They could each carry 1340 passengers in civilian service. These ships were provided with seventeen watertight compartments, and additional compartments surrounding the machinery.

HISTORY -- Lloyd's of London, is a British insurance and reinsurance market. It serves as a partially mutualised marketplace where multiple financial backers, underwriters, or members, whether individuals (traditionally known as Names) or corporations, come together to pool and spread risk. Unlike most of its competitors in the insurance and reinsurance industry, it is not a company, but it is a corporate body under the Lloyd's Act 1871 of the British Parliament. Uberrimae fidei (Latin for "of the utmost good faith") is the motto of Lloyd's.

DESCRIPTION -- Book covering the launch history and build of the new Oriana from 1995 and it contains over 160 pages and is in an Unused condition and is as new.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The MV Oriana is a cruise ship and ocean liner of the P&O Cruises fleet. The ship was built by Meyer Werft at their shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. At over 69,000 GT, Oriana is the seventh largest of eight ships currently in service with P&O Cruises. She officially entered service with the company in April 1995 and was named by Queen Elizabeth II.
