CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- The Clan Line was a passenger and cargo shipping company that operated in one incarnation or another from the late nineteenth century and into the twentieth century. The company that would become the Clan Line was first founded as C. W. Cayzer & Company in Liverpool in 1877 by Charles Cayzer (see Cayzer baronets). It was set up to operate passenger routes between Britain and Bombay, India via the Suez Canal. The next year, Captain William Irvine joined the company and it was renamed Cayzer, Irvine & Company.

CONDITION -- As New/Unused

HISTORY -- Blue Star Line was originally owned by the brothers William and Edmund Vestey, members of a family of Liverpool grocers. Responding to the development of refrigeration technology, they built up a worldwide food importation business, particularly frozen Chinese eggs and poultry. Blue Star Line was registered on 28 July 1911, its vessels carrying imported frozen meat from South America, particularly Argentina.

DESCRIPTION -- B/W photograph of the liner the Canberra and was taken during her sea trials before her maiden launch and is in a great condition.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The SS Canberra was an ocean liner, which later operated on cruises, in the P&O fleet from 1961 to 1997. She was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland at a cost of UK 17 million, and was launched on 16 March 1960. The ship was named on 17 March 1958, after the federal capital of Australia, Canberra, and entered service in May 1961.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The Ben Line originated with the partnership of William and Alexander Thomson who went into the shipping business in 1839. They started with sailing ships and imported marble from Italy and took coal to Canada returning with timber. From 1859 the company operated routes to Singapore, China and Japan and this became its major source of business. New routes were established to the Baltic and the Canadian trade had run down by the mid-1880's.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- Founded in 1838 in Liverpool, the Pacific Steam Navigation Company was the first to operate steamships in the Pacific and primarily traded from the UK to the Pacific coasts of South America. Its most famous ships included the Reina del Pacifico and the Reina del Mar.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The Clan Line was founded in 1877 in Liverpool as C. W. Cayzer & Company, trading from the UK to India. The company became Cayzer, Irvine & Company in 1878 when Captain William Irvine joined the firm. In 1881 the Clan Line Association of Steamers was formed and, with an influential Glasgow businessman joining the firm, the company was moved to Glasgow. Clan Line head office was established at 109 Hope Street, Glasgow. New ships were built and managed for the Association by Cayzer Irvine, with Cayzer retaining ownership of the original six Clan ships.

DESCRIPTION -- B/W photograph of the Glen Line vessel the Glenlyon which is in an unused and as new condition and the size is 10" (25cm) x 8" (20cm) showing the vessel at sea.

CONDITION -- Unused

HISTORY -- As might be expected from the name, Glen Line's origins are to be found in Scotland. The Gow and McGregor families set themselves up in Glasgow during the mid 1850's as cargo and voyage brokers. It would appear that they worked closely together to ensure full cargoes with the Gow's doing the chartering and the McGregor's putting together the freight.

AN ALBUM OF OLD PHOTOGRAPHS FROM A CRUISE ON THE METEOR

DESCRIPTION -- Superb collection of old photographs, which shows a record of life on board the cruise ship The Meteor from many years ago, entitled 'Cruise of the Meteor'. It is dated June 23rd - July 6th 1923 and is an excellent 'picture record' of a real view and living history during that time on board.

CONDITION -- Fair

HISTORY -- The Meteor was a Cruise Ship Voyage to the 'FJORDS' and is one of the most unusual finds you are likely to come across today. The outside cover shows wear from an item that is 80 years old, but otherwise the inside and the rest is in an absolutely excellent condition. It is collectable for many reasons and the size is 9" x 13" (24cm x 33cm).
