DESCRIPTION -- Unused colour postcard of the Greek Line vessel the QSS Arkadia which shows on the front a picture scene of the vessel at sea and is an original old postcard and a rare to find example.
[ONLY 1 AVAILABLE]
CONDITION -- Unused/Excellent
HISTORY -- In late 1957, following the Torres Strait collision, the SS New Australia was withdrawn from service and, for the second time in her life, was destined for the scrap heap. In January 1958 she was saved again from the wreckers when the Greek Line bought her and renamed her Arkadia (registered in the name of the Arcadia Steamship Co). (Not to be confused with the P&O Liner Arcadia. Interestingly, an earlier ship named Arkadia disappeared at sea in 1910.) She was rebuilt and modernized by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg. She was fitted out to carry 150 passengers in 1st class and 1150 in tourist class.
