VERY EARLY WILSON LINE SHIPS GLASS CABIN DISH

DESCRIPTION – An early glass as used onboard cabin dish from the Wilson Line which is in a very good condition and the size is 5″ x 4″ (12cm x 10cm).

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- Founded in 1822 in Hull as Beckinton, the Wilson & Co Line were created to import iron ore from Sweden with a fleet of sailing ships. In 1835 irregular sailing ship passenger services were introduced between Hull, Hamburg and Rotterdam, and a steamship service between Hull and Dunkirk was started the same year.

ONBOARD BAR GLASS FROM THE VESSEL 'SEAWARD' OF THE NORWEGIAN CRUISE

DESCRIPTION -- Original on board ship's glass from the Norwegian Cruise Line and is an older type glass and and the type used on board and purchased as a souvenir. It is taken from the vessel liner 'Seaward' and has a picture of the vessel upon it and is 8" (20cm) tall and in a great condition.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The vessel entered operation with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) in 1988 as Seaward. The vessel was renamed Norwegian Sea in 1997. In 2005, the vessel was transferred to the Star Cruises fleet and renamed SuperStar Libra.

SUPERB GLASS ASHTRAY FROM THE EASTERN STEAMSHIP LINES

DESCRIPTION -- From the Eastern Steamship Lines this is a superb glass ashtray which shows the company houseflag and name in the centre. The size of the glass piece is 4" (11cm) across and it is in a great condition being the type used on board and purchased as a souvenir.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The original Eastern Steamship Company was formed by Charles Wyman Morse in 1901, from the merger of of several East Coast shipping lines. Ownership changed over the years, and other companies were merged. In 1914 it declared bankruptcy, but in 1914 it reappeared as Eastern Steamship Lines, and continued until the outbreak of war (in the US) in 1941, at which time it had eight major ships and dozens of smaller local vessels operating on services from Norfolk, Virginia in the south, to St Johns, New Brunswick in the north.

SMALL GLASS FROM THE AMSTERDAM OF THE HOLLAND AMERICA LINE

DESCRIPTION -- From the Holland America Line this is a souvenir piece from the vessel 'The Amsterdam'. It is a superb small glass item, which shows on it a good view of the liner at sea. This object is in a superb, almost mint condition and is original from this shipping line, where this type of glass was used on board or purchased as a gift.

HISTORY -- The Holland America Line is a cruise shipping company. It was founded in 1873 as the Netherlands-America Steamship Company (Dutch: Nederlandsch-Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Maatschappij), a shipping and passenger line. Headquartered in Rotterdam and providing service to the Americas, it became known as Holland America Line. HAL is now headquartered in Seattle, Washington, U.S.

SOUVENIR CABIN ASHTRAY FROM THE OLD VESSEL J.HENRY DUNANT

DESCRIPTION -- Rare to find souvenir piece which is a square glass cabin ashtray from the old vessel the J. Henry Dunant, which was a hospital ship in operation many years ago. The size of the item is 3" (8cm) wide and it shows on it a picture of the vessel along with the name and is an unusual old find of a once famous old ship. The item would have probably been commonly used on board ship.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The vessel J. Henry Dunant was a Hospital ship. It was built 1959 by Scheepswerven H.H. Bodewes, Millingen, the Netherlands, for the Dutch Red Cross Soc. Details of the vessel were L 64.74 m, B 7.99 m, two oil engines, 2 screws, 10.5 kn. 2 rudders at stern, 1 bow. It carried a motorboat for transport, towing and use as ambulance. It had four wards with 70 beds, but it could be increased to 100 if required.

GLASS DISH FROM THE CTO LINE VESSEL 'CIA DE TRANSPORTS OCEANIQUE'

DESCRIPTION -- Glass cabin pin dish souvenir from The CTO Line vessel 'Cia De Transports Oceaniques' of France which is in a nice condition with no marks and the size is 4" (11.5cm) wide. The glass dish shows across the middle a picture of the vessel with a nice decorative pattern and would have been available to purchase onboard the vessel.

HISTORY -- The Greek Line formally known as the General Steam Navigation Company of Greece was a passenger ship line that operated from 1939 until 1975. The Greek Line was owned by the Ormos Shipping Company. The line operated transatlantic and short to long distance voyages. The company later began operating leisure cruises as the jet age replaced passenger ships as the means of transportation across the Atlantic Ocean.
