BOXED SOUVENIR MUG FROM THE P&O STENA LINE

DESCRIPTION -- This item is unused and as new and an early souvenir from the P&O Stena Line shipping company, and is a china coffee/tea mug still in box.

CONDITION -- Unused

HISTORY -- P&O Stena Line is one of the largest ferry operators in the world. With services serving Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom, Stena Line is a major unit of Stena AB, itself a part of the Stena Sphere. Stena Line also owns the Swedish vessels of the otherwise German- and Danish-owned Scandlines.

RARE SMALL SIDE PLATE/SAUCER FROM THE P&O LINE VESSEL THE SS CANBERRA

DESCRIPTION -- From the vessel the SS Canberra this is a small side plate/saucer shown in the traditional company pattern. It is in a good condition and very collectable with the size being 5" (14cm) wide and a rare find (click on the picture to see the company logo on plate).

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- The SS Canberra was the first modern liner, with engines located after to increase passenger space, and many other innovations. She personified the best in design of her era, having an extremely elegant profile. By carrying emigrants on the ten pound assisted passages to Australia, she provided many happy memories for them, as she also did for the many who sailed aboard her in her later incarnation as a cruise ship. Canberra was the ship that began the affordable cruise industry in England.

A PAIR OF CRUISE LOGS FROM THE P&O LINE VESSEL THE SS CANBERRA DATED 1992

DESCRIPTION -- Cruise line log menus from the vessel the SS Canberra and dated 1992 showing details of a cruise which is in an excellent condition.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The SS Canberra was an ocean liner, which later operated on cruises, in the P&O fleet from 1961 to 1997. She was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland at a cost of 17,000,000. The ship was named on 17 March 1958, after the federal capital of Australia, Canberra. She was launched on 16 March 1960, sponsored by Dame Pattie Menzies, GBE, wife of the then Prime Minister of Australia, Robert Menzies. She entered service in May 1961, and made her maiden voyage starting in June. In the 1982 Falklands War she served as a troop ship.

FROM THE 1960's AN UNUSED P&O CRUISES SOAP IN ORIGINAL BOX

DESCRIPTION -- Unusual find which is a P&O Cruises soap in its original box and it is unused and in an as new condition.

CONDITION -- Unused/As New

HISTORY -- P&O Cruises is a British/American cruise line based at Carnival House in Southampton, England, operated by Carnival UK and owned by Carnival Corporation & plc. Originally a constituent of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, P&O Cruises is the oldest cruise line in the world, having operated the world's first commercial passenger ships in the early 19th century.

P&O LARGE SIZE DINNER PLATE PRODUCED IN THE EARLY TRADITIONAL DESIGN

DESCRIPTION -- From the P&O shipping line this is an as used on board large size dining plate and the size is 9½" (24cm) wide.  It is produced in the early traditional pattern, is bottom marked and in a very good condition dating from the 1950's/1960's.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- In 1837 the Peninsular Steam Navigation Company was awarded a government contract to run a weekly mail service between Falmouth and the Iberian Peninsular ports as far as Gibraltar. This date 180 years ago marks the foundation of P&O, the company from which we can trace its roots today.

BOXED LADIES COMPACT SOUVENIR FROM THE P&O SHIPPING LINE

DESCRIPTION -- This is a Ladies Compact souvenir from the P&O Line shipping company and is in an excellent condition.  It shows on the front the company logo and dates from the 1960's.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- P&O Cruises originates from 1822, with the formation of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company, which began life as a partnership between Brodie McGhie Willcox, a London ship broker, and Arthur Anderson, a sailor from the Shetland Isles. The company first operated a shipping line with major routes between England and the Iberian Peninsula, adopting the new company name Peninsular Steam Navigation Company.  It is and has been for many years the biggest cruise line company in the world.

DECORATIVE BRASS DISH FROM THE P&O LINE VESSEL THE ORIANA

DESCRIPTION -- Brass dish from the P&O Line vessel the Oriana.  It is a very decoratively patterned item and is 4" (12cm) wide showing the company houseflag and name in the centre, and is in a very good condition and dates from the 1970's.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- The SS Oriana was the last of the Orient Steam Navigation Company's ocean liners. She was built at Vickers-Armstrongs, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England and launched on 3 November 1959 by Princess Alexandra. Originally resplendent with her owners' traditional corn coloured hull, SS Oriana appeared as an Orient Line ship until 1966, when that company was fully absorbed into the P&O group. Faced with unprofitable around the world passenger routes, the P&O white hulled Oriana was operated as a full-time cruise ship from 1973.

SOUVENIR LADIES JEWELLERY BOX FROM THE P&O LINE VESSEL THE SS ARCADIA

DESCRIPTION -- From the P&O Line vessel the SS Arcadia this is a ladies jewelery box souvenir which dates from the 1960's.  It is a good to fair condition and is 3" (8cm) square and was believed to have been given to the ladies on board ship in First Class (click on the picture for another view).

CONDITION -- Good/Fair

HISTORY -- The SS Arcadia was a passenger liner built for P&O in 1953 to service the UK to Australia route. Towards the end of her life she operated as a cruise ship, based in Sydney, until scrapped in 1979.

SOUVENIR MUG FROM THE P&O LINE VESSEL THE MV OCEANA

DESCRIPTION -- This is a souvenir mug with colour black from the P&O Line vessel the MV Oceana which is as new and is from its inaugural year.

CONDITION -- As new/Unused

HISTORY -- The MV Oceana (previously Ocean Princess), is a cruise ship of the P&O Cruises fleet. The ship was built by Fincantieri at their shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. At over 77,000 tonnes, Oceana is the fifth largest of seven ships currently in service with P&O Cruises. She entered service with the company in November 2002 and was named by HRH the Princess Royal in 2003. Oceana is a sister ship to Sea Princess (which served in the P&O Cruises fleet as Adonia between 2003 and 2005), Sun Princess and Dawn Princess, all of which are Sun-Class cruise ships.

COPPER PLAQUE SOUVENIR FROM THE P&O LNE VESSEL THE SS ORSOVA

DESCRIPTION -- Souvenir from the SS Orsova of the P&O Line which is a copper plaque mounted on wood showing the vessel and the name.  The size is 7½" (19cm) x 3½" (9cm) and is in a very good condition dating from the 1950's.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The SS Orsova, was a British ocean liner, built by Vickers Armstrong Shipbuilders Ltd. of Barrow-in-Furness, England for the Orient Steam Navigation Company (Orient Line) for their Great Britain-to-Australia services via the Suez Canal. She was the final development of the 28,000 ton class which began with the SS Orcades of 1948 and continued with the SS Oronsay of 1951.
