DESCRIPTION – Early souvenir brass dish from the SS Chusan of the P&O Line which is in a good condition and dates from the 1960’s and shows on it the name and company flag.

HISTORY -- The SS Chusan was a British ocean liner and cruise ship, built for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O)'s Indian and Far East Service in 1950. She was named after Chusan, a small island off China. A smaller version of the SS Himalaya, the Chusan had a gross register tonnage of 24,215; and a capacity of 1,565 passengers and crew. She was built as a replacement for the ship RMS Viceroy of India, lost in the Second World War.

DESCRIPTION -- Fantastic rare item to find from the famous P&O Line vessel the SS Canberra which is a two handled dinner bowl and saucer as used in service and is 6" (15cm) wide including handles, and it is bottom marked and looks like new and dates from the 1950's. Canberra pieces are becoming very hard to locate.

HISTORY -- For 37 years the SS Canberra was a very familiar sight in Southampton's Western Docks and in ports the world over, particularly Sydney which, it could be said, has been her second home. In April 1982 the unthinkable happened when Britain went to war in hopefully the last colonial campaign in her history and for the first time in 42 years a P&O liner was requisitioned for service as a troop transport. During the three months of the Falklands campaign she made headlines the world over, and she became a household name as she continued her peacetime role.

DESCRIPTION -- From the original P&O vessel the Oriana a pair of onboard daily programmes called TODAY which are from 1998 and are in an excellent condition.

CONDITION -- Excellent

HISTORY -- The first Oriana was built in 1960 by Vickers-Armstrong's, Barrow. Ordered by, and registered to the Orient Steam Navigation Co, she was delivered to P&O Orient Lines with the distinctive Orient Line corn-coloured hull. She served on the route to Australia from Southampton (unlike earlier Orient Liners which sailed from London). In 1962 she collided with the carrier USS Kearsarge between San Francisco and Los Angeles in fog. Her hull was repainted white in 1965, when she was transferred to full P&O registry

DESCRIPTION -- Ashtray of the type as used on board cruise ships from the P&O Line which is bottom marked and is 5" (12cm).  It is produced in the traditional P&O Line company design and colours and dates from the 1960's.

HISTORY -- P&O Line first introduced passenger services in 1844, with a leisure cruise departing from Southampton to the Mediterranean. These voyages were the first of their kind and the forerunner of modern cruise holidays. The company later introduced round trips to destinations such as Alexandria and Constantinople and underwent rapid expansion in the later half of the 19th century, with its ships becoming larger and more luxurious.

She entered service in May 1961, and made her maiden voyage starting in June.
