DESCRIPTION -- Side plate from the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company and is produced in the traditional company design pattern. It is a China piece and is bottom marked CP Ships with the size being 6" (16cm) wide and is in a very good condition.

In 1891, the Canadian Pacific Railway adopted a new name the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company (CPSC). The CPSC became one of the many shipping companies operating in and out of Liverpool. The company expanded as people emigrating from Europe to North America provided a larger number of passengers and the company also started holiday cruises.

DESCRIPTION -- From the old vessel the Empress of Canada from the Canadian Pacific Line this is a pairof cocktail spoons which are in a good condition and a rare find.

HISTORY -- The RMS Empress of Canada of 1961 was the last passenger ship to be built for Canadian Pacific's Liverpool to Montreal service.  The ship was the first Canadian Pacific liner to be equipped with a bulbous bow, which, it was said would help in reducing pitching. She had Denny-Brown stabilisers and full air-conditioning.  RMS Empress of Canada was built by Vickers-Armstrongs of Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, England for Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd. This ship, the third CP vessel to be named Empress of Canada, regularly traversed the transatlantic route between Liverpool and Canada for many years.

HISTORY -- The Canadian Pacific Line was a company under the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The Canadian Pacific Railway Company was formed in 1881, and the company soon entered into ship-owning. In the beginning limited to transportation along Lake superior and the Great Lakes. The transatlantic passenger service however, was not started before in 1903, when CPR took over the ships and service of the Beaver Line. The division was managed as the "Canadian Pacific Ocean Services" (C.P.O.S.).

CP Ships had its head office in the City Place Gatwick development on the property of London Gatwick Airport in Crawley, West Sussex. The Company was a part of the Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. conglomerate. It was spun out as a separate company in 2001. In 2005, it was purchased by TUI AG and is now part of the company's Hapag-Lloyd division.

HISTORY -- CP Ships was a large Canadian container shipping company, prior to being taken over by Hapag Lloyd in late 2005. CP Ships had its head office in the City of Westminster in London and later in the City Place Gatwick development on the property of London Gatwick Airport in Crawley, West Sussex. The company became an independent corporation in 2001 when it was demerged by conglomerate Canadian Pacific Limited (CP) and is incorporated in Saint John, New Brunswick but headquartered in Greater London. Its 82 ships were registered in a number countries including the UK, Bermuda, Liberia, and Germany and most of the crews were Asian. Its primary ports remain Montreal and Vancouver.

The ship was launched in 1956; and she undertook her maiden voyage in 1957. The ship was ordered along with two other sister ships -- the Empress of Britain and the Empress of Canada. The Empress's maiden voyage began on April 18, 1957

HISTORY -- RMS Empress of Britain was a transatlantic ocean liner built by Fairfield Shipbuilding at Govan on the Clyde in Scotland in 1955-1956 for the Canadian Pacific Steamship company. This ship, the third of three CP vessels to be named Empress of Britain, regularly traversed the trans-Atlantic route between Canada and Europe until 1964, completing 123 voyages under the Canadian Pacific flag. This Empress was distinguished by the Royal Mail Ship (RMS) prefix in front of her name because the British government and Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) had decades earlier reached agreement on a contract for subsidized trans-oceanic mail service.
