LARGE SIZED PEWTER TANKARD FROM THE PORT LINE

DESCRIPTION -- Port Line souvenir tankard with the size as 4" (12cm) and dating from the 1950's. It shows on the front the company houseflag and has been made with a dimpled pattern.

HISTORY -- Port Line was a passenger and cargo shipping company, initially formed as the Commonwealth and Dominion Line in 1914, and in operation in one form or another until 1982.

HISTORY -- Port Line was a passenger and cargo shipping company, initially formed as the Commonwealth and Dominion Line in 1914, and in operation in one form or another until 1982. Port Line was formed in 1914 with 23 ships contributed by J.P. Corry & Co., Wm Milburn & Co., Thos. B. Royden & Co., and Tyser & Co. to operate services to Australia and New Zealand. In 1916 the share capital of the company was purchased by Cunard and after the war, their ships' funnels were painted in Cunard colours.
