This edition of Browns Flags & Funnels attempts to give a fairly representative worldwide selection of the houseflags and funnel or smoke stack markings of companies which operate ships. This includes shipping companies of all types, from giants controlling millions of tons, to small one-ship companies and from deep-sea tankers, bulkers and container ships to coasters, tugs and harbor craft. Divided by main colour of the funnel or stack, identification is easy.

P&O FLAG FROM THE FALKLANDS WAR

DESCRIPTION -- This particular flag is from the old P&O vessel the Canberra and was used during the falklands War in 1982. It is an old full size P&O Houseflag and is ex stock from the store of the Canberra. It was reputedly used on the return from Falklands War and flown on the Canberra. The size of the flag is 11ft x 7ft (335cm x 213cm ). It has some slight damage with regard to a few holes but otherwise is a nice piece and a genuine item. [PR]

CONDITION -- Good

HISTORY -- SS Canberra was an ocean liner, which later operated on cruises, in the P&O fleet from 1961 to 1997. She was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland at a cost of £17,000,000. The ship was named on 17 March 1958, after the federal capital of Australia, Canberra. She was launched on 16 March 1960, sponsored by Dame Pattie Menzies, GBE, wife of the then Prime Minister of Australia, Robert Menzies. She entered service in May 1961, and took her maiden voyage starting in June. During the 1982 Falklands War, she served as a troop ship.

DESCRIPTION -- This item is an original company mini houseflag from The Kawasaki Line Shipping Company from Japan. It is nicely made on a flagpole and stands 19" (49cm) high and is an unusual find.

CONDITION -- Very Good

HISTORY -- Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. also referred to as "K" Line, is a very large Japanese shipping company. It owns and/or controls large cargo ships, including dry cargo ships, container ships, container terminals, gas carriers, RoRo ships and tankers. It is the tenth largest container transportation and shipping company in the world.

DESCRIPTION -- This item is a mini company houseflag souvenir from The O. Wallanias Line. It is 18" (46cm) high and is in a superb condition. This type of item always looks superb when framed. This is a rare item to find these days especialy when in an almost mint condition.
