SOME OLD BONE DOMINOES FROM DOUBLE NINE TO DOUBLE BLANK |

|
PRICE REDUCED - 2005 celebrated the 200th anniversary of the great battle known as The Battle of Trafalgar. This item is one of many fabulous pieces available from TRAVELLERS IN TIME celebrating that 200th anniversary. Some of the pieces are directly linked to the Napoleonic period or to the famous flagship of Lord Horatio Nelson himself ‘HMS VICTORY’. Some other pieces listed are indirectly linked as souvenir items of Lord Nelson, the battle, his ship or the antiquities of the time.
This is an old collection of dominoes from one to two hundred years ago. They are a very unusual set as they are a set of original ‘double nines’, used in days gone by before the traditional sets used today of the ‘double sixes’.
The dominoes are a full size set from the double nines down to the double blanks, but unfortunately there is one missing. They are made of a combination of wood and bone, and were handmade by an old seafarer when on his days at sea.
They are an old set and are difficult to date, but it is thought that they are anywhere between 150 and 200 years old. They are all in a great condition and are a superb example of the period.

AN ORIGINAL OLD SEAMAN'S BINOCULARS SCRIMSHAW PIECE |

|
PRICE REDUCED - This item dates from the early sea voyages and is made of bone with brass trims. It is a pair of 'whaling' binoculars or sometimes called field glasses. They were generally used to spot whales when at sea and are for a close range use, not long range. They were used on the old whaling voyages and are in a good condition.
They are a typical seaman's item and are made with the usual scrimshaw design techniques. They are an unusual find as they are a working tool scrimshaw item as opposed to a decorative stationery item. Rare to find and difficult to date.

AN ORIGINAL SHIPS ASHTRAY FROM THE HAMBURG AMERICA LINE |

|
PRICE REDUCED - This item is from The Hamburg America Line and is dated circa 1935. It is a large size brass ashtray, which is nicely marked in the centre with the company name and emblem. The size of the object is 8½" (21.5cm) and it is in a very good condition.
Formed in 1847, the Packet Company sailed from Hamburg to New York via Southampton. In the early years sailing time was about 40 days, Hamburg to New York. In 1875 the company took over the Adler Line, and in 1886, amalgamated with the Carr-Union Line. They assumed control of the passenger management of Hamburg-South America Line, German East Africa Line and Hansa Line's Canadian service in 1888. The five vessels of the Eagle Line were purchased when that company collapsed and, about 1890, they took over the Hansa Line. In 1930 Hapag Lloyd Union was formed with North German Lloyd, and in 1972, the company combined with North German Lloyd to become Hapag-Lloyd AG.
By 1872 the company was making weekly passages to New York and had extended their service to include Baltimore, the West Indies, Mexico, South American, China, Japan and Australia. Service was extended about 1873 to include routes from Hamburg, Antwerp and Montreal in the summer and Hamburg, Antwerp and Boston in the winter.

AN ORIGINAL CUBE SHAPED MILK JUG FROM THE RMS QUEEN MARY |

|
PRICE REDUCED - This item is an original cube shaped milk jug from the famous old liner The RMS Queen Mary, which is in the traditional cream colour. RMS Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that sailed the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (then Cunard-White Star when the vessel entered service). Built by John Brown and Company, Clydebank, Scotland, she was designed to be the first of Cunard's planned two-ship weekly express service from Southampton to Cherbourg to New York, in answer to the mainland European superliners of the late 1920s and early 1930s.
After their release from World War II troop transport duties, Queen Mary and her running mate RMS Queen Elizabeth commenced this two-ship service and continued it for two decades until Queen Mary's retirement in 1967. The ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is permanently berthed in Long Beach, California serving as a museum ship and hotel.
The Queen Mary celebrated the 70th anniversary of her launch in both Clydebank and in Long Beach during 2004, and the 70th anniversary of her maiden voyage in 2006.
